Kidney Regulation of Body Fluid pH
The epithelial cells of the nephrons transport hydrogen ions from the body fluids into the filtrate (red) in exchange for NaÌ ions.  In addition, the amino group of certain amino acids is converted to NHÓ and secreted into the nephron.
